Used electric motorcycles: what to know
Who it suits
An electric motorcycle is quiet, quick off the line and needs almost no maintenance. It is ideal for the city and for everyday journeys.
What to check on a used electric
- BatteryIt is the most expensive part. Ask about the condition of the battery and the warranty it still has.
- Real rangeThe advertised range is in ideal conditions. Ask the owner how many kilometres they get on one charge day to day.
- ChargerCheck that the charger comes with the bike and works: bought separately, it is expensive.
- SoftwareAsk whether the software is up to date and whether the brand still offers support.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the battery last?
It loses capacity with the years and with charge cycles, faster in heat or if it is always charged to full. That is why condition and warranty count more than age.
What licence do I need for an electric?
Power is what counts: up to 11 kW, licence A1; up to 35 kW, A2; above that, A. On an electric, the power that counts is the nominal continuous power, not the peak.
Where do you charge it?
At home, from a normal socket, especially if the battery comes out of the bike; or at public charging points, if the bike has the plug for it.
