Privacy Policy

Last updated 10 October 2026.

1. Who is responsible

The controller of your personal data is Ricardo Oliveira, who runs Motoland (the app and the motoland.app website). For any question about your data, write to support@motoland.app or use Account → Help → Contact support. We have no data protection officer: this is the contact.

2. What data we collect

Data you give us. Account and profile: email, display name, profile photo, location (for example, Lisbon/Portugal) and the country of the market where you buy and sell. If you like, also your nationality, a description, your social links and when you are usually available. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from them. Sign-up: whether you are an individual or a business, the motorcycle categories you are interested in, how you found us (and a partner's code, if you have one), your notification preferences and your acceptance of the Terms and this Policy (we store the date and version). Content: listings and services (text, price, photos, location), messages and photos in chats, offers, forum posts, comments and votes, reviews, reports and support requests. Also the motorcycles in your garage (with photos, mileage and service records), your favourites, saved searches, the people you follow and the users you block. Data we collect when you use the app. For every listing or service you publish, we store the approximate coordinates of its location (the point of the town or suburb, never the street address), for searching by area. When you open someone else's listing while signed in, we store the listing, your account and the day, so the seller can see how many people viewed it. We store the push-notification identifier of each device where you are signed in, and the app language. If you allow location access, the app uses your device's position while you use it: to show services within 50 km of you, how far away listings are, and to suggest your city (your phone's map service turns the position into a place name). We don't store your device's position. The purchases you make (product, date and store) reach us through RevenueCat; we never receive your card details. When something goes wrong, we record an error report: what failed, the screen and the last screens visited, your device model, operating system, app version and your account ID. If you left your email on the waiting list our website had before launch, we store that email and the site language. Other sources: Apple or Google (when you sign in with them), RevenueCat and the app store (the status of purchases and subscriptions) and other users (messages, reviews and reports). What is required: to create an account we need your email, display name (unless you sign in with Apple), location, account type, interests and how you found us. Without them we can't create the account, but you can browse without one. Everything else is optional.

3. Why we use the data, and on what legal basis

To perform our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR): create and manage your account; publish and show listings and services; deliver messages, offers and the service's notifications and emails; run the forum, reviews, garage, favourites and saved searches; process purchases of Featured boosts and Motoland Pro. Legitimate interest (point (f)): keeping Motoland safe and free of fraud and abuse, including the automatic checking of listings and services and the handling of reports; fixing faults through error reports; showing sellers how many people viewed their listings; understanding how people find us and crediting the right partner for the code you enter; sending you Motoland news by email (see section 9); and showing non-personalised advertising, which funds the free app. With your consent (point (a)): personalised ads (in Google's privacy message and, on iOS, Apple's tracking prompt), push notifications (the system permission), your device's location and the promotional “news and offers” notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what was done before. To comply with legal obligations (point (c)): keeping purchase and billing records for as long as tax law requires, and answering requests from authorities. We do not sell your personal data.

4. What other users see

Other users see your display name, photo, location, description, nationality (as a flag), availability, social links, rating and reviews, the date you joined, your active listings and services, your forum posts and comments, and your garage. Part of this (the profile, listings, forum and reviews) is visible even without an account. If you say you sell as a business or as a private individual, that appears on your listings. Under Account → Account privacy you can stay out of people search and hide your garage. Your email, your chats and offers, your account type, your preferences and your notification identifier are not shown to other users. The seller sees how many people opened a listing, not who.

5. Who receives the data

We use the providers below, which receive only what they need for their role: Supabase: database, authentication, photo storage and server functions. The data sits on servers in the EU (Ireland). OpenAI: automatic checking of the text and photos of new listings and services (see section 7). It does not receive your name, email or account ID. Google AdMob: advertising and the consent message (see section 8). RevenueCat: managing purchases and subscriptions. It receives your user ID (or an anonymous ID, if you have no account) and purchase history, never your card details. Apple and Google (app stores): process the payment for purchases. They also confirm your identity when you sign in with Apple or Google. Expo: sending push notifications and delivering app updates. Apple (Apple Push Notification service) and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) deliver them to your device. Resend: sending emails (account emails, offer notices, listings about to expire, support replies and news). Mapbox: on Android, the map image of a listing's or service's approximate area (it receives your IP and the area). On iPhone we use Apple Maps. Photon, by komoot: place-name suggestions when you type a location, and search by area (it receives the place text and your IP). Sentry: error reports, when it is enabled in the version of the app you use. Google (Firebase Hosting and Google Fonts): the motoland.app website and the images in our emails are hosted on Firebase, and the website loads fonts from Google Fonts; Google receives your IP when you open the site or an email. We may also disclose data to authorities if the law requires it.

6. Transfers outside the EU

Supabase stores your data in the EU (Ireland). Some of the other providers, in particular OpenAI, Google, Apple, RevenueCat, Expo, Resend, Mapbox and Sentry, are in the United States or may process data there. When that happens, the transfer relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, if the provider is certified, or, if it is not, on the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards at support@motoland.app.

7. Automatic content checks

New listings and services (and changes to their text or photos) are checked automatically before they become visible. The title, description and photos are sent to OpenAI, which indicates whether there is prohibited content, such as sexual, violent or hateful content. We don't send your name, email or account ID. We also compare the text you write with a list of prohibited words: text containing one of them is refused straight away and the app tells you which. If the check flags a listing or service, it stays hidden and the app shows you the reason. You can ask a person to review it, through “Request a human review” on the listing itself or by email to support@motoland.app (the same goes for a refused word). If the check fails because of us, the listing is held until it is reviewed. Suspending or closing an account is always decided by a person, and forum posts and comments reported by several users are hidden automatically until they are reviewed. We don't take decisions with legal effects for you based solely on automated processing: the check only keeps content hidden until someone reviews it, and you can ask for that review at any time.

8. Advertising & tracking

Motoland shows ads through Google AdMob to keep the app free. To measure those ads and, depending on the choices below, personalise them, AdMob and its partners may use your device's advertising identifier (an ID your device provides for advertising). On iOS we ask through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any cross-app tracking; if you decline, AdMob doesn't receive your device's advertising identifier and isn't allowed to track you across other companies' apps and websites, but you still see ads. On Android you can reset or delete that identifier in your device settings. Whatever you choose, AdMob receives what it needs to show and measure an ad, such as your IP address (from which it estimates your approximate location), your device type and how you interact with ads. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, ads are personalised only if you agree to it in Google's privacy message, and you can change that choice at any time under Account → Legal → Ad privacy choices; elsewhere, they may be personalised. Motoland Pro removes ads entirely. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions: it processes a pseudonymous app user ID and your purchase history to unlock your entitlements, and never receives your card details — payment is handled by your app store. We don't sell your personal data.

9. News emails

From time to time we send emails with Motoland news to people who have an account and a confirmed email address, about Motoland's own services similar to the ones you already use. We do this on the basis of legitimate interest and under Article 13-A of Portuguese Law 41/2004, which allows contacting customers about similar services as long as they can refuse easily and free of charge. You can refuse whenever you like, at no cost: by turning off “Motoland news by email” in Account → Preferences → Notifications; by using the unsubscribe link at the end of each of these emails; or by writing to support@motoland.app. You can also turn them off when you create your account, in the notifications step. We stop sending you news straight after. This does not affect service emails, which you need to use Motoland: sign-in and account emails, offer notices, listing-expiry notices, reminders about your listings and support replies.

10. How long we keep the data

Account and content: as long as you have an account. When you delete your account (Account → Account privacy → Delete account, or by email), your profile, listings, garage, favourites, saved searches, offers, conversations, forum posts and uploaded photos are permanently removed. Deletion is completed within 7 days and can't be undone. What may remain: purchase records, for as long as tax law requires, and reports needed to prevent fraud or abuse, until the period required by law. They are no longer linked to a usable account. The app store and RevenueCat keep their own records of purchases, under their own rules and the law. Listing views: as long as the listing and your account exist. Error reports: 90 days, then they are deleted automatically. When you delete your account, they are no longer linked to your ID. Website waiting list: until you ask for your email to be removed.

11. Your rights

You have the right to access your data, to correct it and to erase it; to restrict processing; to object to processing based on legitimate interest and to direct marketing; to receive your data in a structured, commonly used format (portability); and to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what was done before. You also have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing with legal effects. In the app you can see and edit your profile, manage notifications and emails in Account → Preferences → Notifications, change privacy in Account → Account privacy, change your ad choices in Account → Legal → Ad privacy choices and delete your account. For the rest (access, a copy of your data, restriction, objection), write to support@motoland.app from your account's email address. We reply within one month and may ask you to confirm your identity. If you think we process your data in breach of the law, you can lodge a complaint with the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), www.cnpd.pt, or with the supervisory authority of the country where you live or work or where the breach took place.

12. Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit and row-level access controls, so users only reach what they're allowed to. No system is perfectly secure, so use a strong, unique password and keep it private.

13. Children

Motoland isn't intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product or the law changes. We'll revise the date above and flag material changes in the app.

15. Contact and complaints

Privacy questions or requests? Reach us under Account → Help → Contact support, or email support@motoland.app. Controller: Ricardo Oliveira. Supervisory authority: CNPD, www.cnpd.pt.
